Michael Kelly was born in Dromtariffe, Cork, Ireland in 1821. He married Honora Connell, also born in the same parish, in 1846, and they emigrated to America in 1847, first to New York, and then to Ohio, Illinois before settling down with his family in Minnesota. He died in 1902.
