Michael McDermott of Cloonybrennan (Elphin, Co Roscommon) married Anne Beirne of Lugboy  in 1807. They began raising their family in Clooncullaan, but seem to have returned to Lugboy by 1820. (A number of marriage arrangements between Cloncullaan and Cloonybrennan occur in the early 1800s, especially for the Casserlys).

Few baptising records have survived for this couple.

Children of Michael McDermott & Anne Beirne:
John    29 Jun 1818   ss Bernard McDermott & Brigid Moran (born in CLONCULLANE)
Hugh    b.1820    ss Edward Keogh & Eleanora Healy (born in LUGBOY)

In 1811, Michael godparented for his brother-in-law Mark Beirne & Mary Mannion.

In 1818, Michael invites a Bernard McDermott (aka Bryan) to godparent his twin sons. This is his brother Bryan McDermott (Bernard in Latin) who married Margaret Mannion in 1814 and lived in Cloonybrennan.

The name “Hugh” is common to both Michael and Bryan’s family which suggests a Hugh McDermott ancestor. It is possible that Hugh McDermott & Margaret Casserly of Elphin (who married in 1845) may be their son. (Further research required).
