Michael Storman was born in the townland of Nodstown about 10 km from Cashel in County Tipperary around 1809. His parents were Edmund 'Ned' Storman and Hanoria Stakelum, who were farmers in this part of the "Golden Vale" in Tipperary. Michael was the third born child, his older brother was John who was born around 1804.

On 21 February 1841 Michael married Margaret Power in Moycarkey, about 20 km from Nodstown. A son, Michael Storman was born prior to the marriage on 04 May 1840 at Nodstown. It is not known why this small family wanted to leave Nodstown, but a decision was made in 1841 to sail to New South Wales in Australia.Maybe it was the illegitimate birth of the first child or being the third born in the family, but they booked a trip on "The Forth" leaving Plymouth, Devon, England on 23 Mar 1841 and arriving at Botany Bay, New South Wales on the 28 Aug 1841. From Botany Bay, the family moved south to Moruya to farm Francis Flannagan's tenated lease.

Two more sons were born in Moruya. Edward was born in 1842 and John in 1846. An unfortunate horse accident killed Edward in 1877. The farming life of John was not easy and he moved most of his family to the Western Australian Kalgoorlie goldrush. The Stormon (the name Storman discontinued in Australia, as it was recorded as Stormon not Storman) name in Australia is predominantly the result of Michael Stormon 1809-1925. The Stormon descendants in Western Australia didn't have any male children that continued the name.
