Neilson White's name appeared on the 1863 wedding certificate of his daughter, Sarah Ann White in 1863. He was listed as a farmer, and Sarah's place of residence at the time of marriage was listed as Coragh in the parish of Loughgall, where the church wedding took place.

While the family name White appears in Loughgall/Portadown records, the forename Neilson does not.

Was it Nelson? Searches for Nelson White are equally elusive.

Was it a typographical error? I suspect not. At least descendants of Sarah White's family were also named Neilson - one a forename, the other a middle one.

Enquires through two local churches in Loughgall have not provided an answer - one of the churches maintained no records for that period.

Might Neilson have had other children? Searches of records available through the PRO, Dublin have not provided any other wedding certificates with Neilson White listed as the father.

Was Sarah Ann (White) Boyd a witness at the wedding of a sister or a brother? Again results.

Similar searches for Neilson White in Loughgall, Armagh, all Ireland, and beyond yielded no results.

Might Neilson have been in the military? Several Army and Navy records searches provided information about Sarah Ann (White) Boyd's in-laws, but no Neilson White was discovered there.

Do you have a Neilson White lurking in your family tree?
