Nicholas CARROLL was born about 1800 in the diocese of Ossory, parish of Lisdowney, County Laois, Ireland. His parents were: Laurent/Lawrence CARROLL and Mary FOGERTY [died prior to 1830].

He arrived in the U.S.A. about 1818.

On 13 July 1829 in Galena, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, USA, he married Helena FINLEY/FINNELEY [also from the same diocese, parish of Mokelly]. Her parents were: Michael FINLEY and Margaret TINON [?], She had arrived in the USA a year before her marriage--about 1828.

Witnesses at the marriage were: Matthew Hogan, Thomas Dun/Dunn, Catherine Brophy, Helena Conneley, and several others.
