  • I have Catherine Farnan (1830 - 1891) in my tree. She is married to my G Grandmother's brother James Halfpenny (Halpin) 1824 - 1902. . They married in Milan Ohio 1849. Halfpenny's are from Magheracloone/Killanny parish. I assume she knew him in Ireland and they married shortly after arrival in USA. Her death record states Peter Farnan and Bridget Byrnes are her parents. Tombstones in Old Killanny parish may be related: Buried in Olde Killanny Parish Graveyard, Location Killanny, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.

  • Your Catherine is a different person than mine. My Catherine was born in 1843 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I have her baptism record showing Owen Farnan and Bridget Branagan as her parents.

There were many Farnans in tthe Carrickmacross area. I wonder if you and I have a DNA match. Are you on Ancestry or GEDMatch? Also, I have several unidentified pictures that I will share with you if you're interested. They're all from Indiana or Ohio.

  • Hi Jim,

I compared you with me and two of my Farnan cousins on GEDmatch. No shared DNA. It's probably too far back. Thanks for writing. I'll keep your info.
