Migrated to/Born in UK

Born in Co. Carlow, Ireland,  March 17, 1825. County is all that is knownfor sure, but believe Patrick was born/lived in Leighlinbridge.

Have no information that he traveled with a relative or friend.  May have landed at Castle Garden, NY.  Traveled to St. Joseph or Independence, Missouri for transportation to Calif. Gold Rush.

Left St. Joseph or Independence and headed for California.  Wonder if Patrick bought a horse, walked, joined a family in a wagontrain, etc. for the trip.

After some years, Patrick returned East, presumable through St. Joseph or Independence, Missouri.  Apparently discovered some gold because bought land & settled in Lockport, Will Co., Homer Twp., Illinois.  [Eventually acquired 160 acres of farmland.  Raised dairy cows, sheep & chickens. Grew corn, wheat, soybeans, hay.]

Enlisted as Private in Civil War  Aug. 30, 1862, Joliet, IL.  Served in Illinois Co. F,  Ill.100th Infantry Regiment, Mustered out June 12, 1865 Nashville, TN.  May have been hurt during War, but not incapacitated.  Attended numerous Civil War Reunions in Joliet and received ribbons of attendance.

At end of Civil War, Patrick returned to Ireland for bride.  Brought back Johanna Duggan, b.1832  Co.Tipperary.  d. 1913 Lockport, IL.  Married 1868 but not sure if married in Ireland or America, civil ceremony or religious (Catholic).  Don't know if Patrick and Johanna knew one another prior to Patrick's departure to America.

Patrick & Johanna had 2 children: William Curtis b.1869  d.1936 ,  Mary Ann Cecilia b. 1871 d,1943.
