  • Hello - I have a Peter Carney in my Filan Family Tree.  My Peter was born to Patrick and Bridget Carney around 1840.  I believe he was from Ballinameen parish in Roscommon.

My Peter immigrated to the U.S. where he married Winnifred Filan, from Oldtown in Ballinameen Parish.  They married on 12 Oct 1863 in New Castle, Delaware.

Peter died 17 Aug 1889 and is buried at the Cathedral Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware.  I mention this because immigrating to Delaware is a little bit different than the usual Boston, NYC, Chicago, etc...  and would be worth a search if you have any who immigrated to the U.S.

  • Hi Susan

Catholic parish records for Ballinameen in the 1840s were covered by the parish of Croghan (then Killucan & Ballinameen)  so you may want to join the Killukin (Boyle) IrelandXO community and add your Peter Carney to the roll-call there as well.
