Richard Gilroy married Elizabeth Amos at Carrickapolin near Brookeborough in Fermanagh on 2 June 1853. They migrated to Australia on the Araminta arriving in Sydney Australia on 29 July 1854. They initially went to Kiama on the south coast of New South Wales. They later moved to Kangaloon the southern Highlands New South Wales. Following Elizabeth's death from Diptheria in 1876, Richard moved to Kangaroo Valley near Nowra where he died. Both Richard and Elizabeth are buried in the East Kangaloon Anglican Cemetery. Their youngest daughter Louisa is buried with them.
