  • Is the name Sabina a common Irish name? Is there a nickname associated?

Her mother may have been named Sabina. Perhaps when she arrived in the U.S. she changed it to Sabina from perhaps Mary.

I saw the name Mary Kilbane somewhere in my files (cannot remember where) so, cannot substantiate it from any records.

Is there a book, online reading, documentary, etc that would give me a sense of life on Achill Island? -- Besides the Banshees of Inisherin!

I feel a special kinship to the Irish side of my family since it is my mitochondrial DNA lineage.

My mother's, mother's, mother's, mother was born on Achill. Being a female, I passed it down to my kids.  They all have boys.                                                My sister's granddaughters, though, have the same mitochondrial DNA as I do. As a scientist, I find it totally cool.
