Theophilus O'Flanagan : Short Biography

Theophilus O'Flanagan a noted Gaelic Society scholar and teacher was born in Tulla in 1762.  He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and became involved with the Gaelic Revival Movement while living and teacher in Dublin.  He was the first secretary of the Gaelic Society of Dublin which was formed in 1807.  The purpose of the Society was to promote Gaelic culture, antiquities and literature so that Gaelic culture would not be lost.  O'Flanagan was a noted patriot who wrote "Deirdri:  Or the Lamentable Fate of the Sons of Usnach".

He also edited the Transactions of the Gaelic Society (1808), assisted with other works.  He died in 1814 in Dublin.
