Son of Denis Gannon and Mary Stapleton (We believe Denis younger brother of Gilbert Gannon).  Not sure who Mary's relations are nor Denis's parents.

Born December 1825. Eldest child.  Killukin & Killumod. (Ballycullen).

Baptised: Croghan 11 December 1825

Sponsors: John Dolan and Ellen Gannon.

Siblings: Catherine (1827) , Bridget (1830-1837), Mary (1832), John (1834), Brigid (1837),  Anne (1840), Dennis (1843).

Worked as a Clerk before joining the EICA and leaving Ireland for India (Madras) October 1849. He never returned to Ireland.

His family emigrated to USA (ended up in Stockton, San Joaquin, California) except for his father Denis, who we believe died in Ireland or UK waiting to get to USA.

Thomas married 1854 then again in 1855. His first wife, Mary Anne O'Riordan died a few months after marriage in 1854. He married the following year to Margaret Frances (Mary?) Gilbert.  Children: Denis George (1857), Margaret Frances (1858), Harriett Augusta (1861),  John Ignatius(1865), James Gilbert (1869), 

Sponsors of his siblings in Ireland included: John Dolan, Ellen Gannon, Mark Hanly, Catherine Stapleton, W Flynn, M Stapleton, Bridget Cox, Anne Higgins

His father Denis, held a plot with Gilbert Gannon (we believe elder brother) but all left area around the time of the famine.

Thomas died September 1878 at the age of 53 in Hyderabad, India. Natural Causes.

  • My Dad’s Grandmother was a Margaret Gannon , (Husband Farrell Beirne). My brother & me have done our Dna with Family Tree Dna. My sister in law is also a Gannon . Our Gannons were appx 4 mikes from Elphin . Long ago they would have been baptised & buried in Croghan .  I went to secondary school in Elphin , so I know the regions pretty well , my brothers live in that region & certainly are more in touch with the community details .
