Comments

  • Kilkeevin parish is on the boundary with Co. Galway and 1869 death record for Thomas Gill age 50 was recorded in Co Galway (possibly because he died in hospital there, or it was the nearest town to register the death.

  • Rua: I can't fully express how thankful I am for your post with this information.  It confirms the annotation of my g+grandmother and gives me yet another hint about the journey of the Gill family from County Roscommon to the coal mines of Pennsylvania and eventually to Providence, Rhode Island where Thomas Gill's widow Elizabeth and four children went on to contribute to several successful families in Rhode Island.  Their eldest son married Hannah Corcoran who may have come from Boyle, County Roscommon, and the eldest daughter of Edward and Hannah married George Trainor whose g+grandparents may have come from Castlerea.  I am now more motivated to figure out the connections of the families Gill, Corcoran, and Trainor, who all seem to have some connection to this area of County Roscommon and ended up interconnecting in Providence, Rhode Island.

    With much gratitude, Brenda Trainor
