Migrated to/Born in USA

Thomas Joseph Brennan, born Feb 1862 and baptized at Kilcooley (Killukin?) parish Feb 15, 1862.

Father was Martin Brennan, of #6A on the Croghan Hermitage, (1805-1875), mother Maria Higgins (dob & dod?; possibly from Knockacortha) married in1850.

Thomas had three older brothers: John (1851), Patrick (1854) and Martin (1859).

Thomas left for America: Unknown date or place of emigration, possibly late 1870's (1879?), through Liverpool to New York. It's unknown if brothers or any other family members emigrated.  Parents stayed in Ireland.

Thomas moves to Topeka Kansas, USA in 1880s (Kansas was seeking settlers and Topeka was one of fastest growing US  cities).

Thomas marries Minnie (Mary Ann?) Coleman on June 12, 1888 in Topeka Kansas, USA, and they have 2 sons:  John Thomas (1889) and Francis Edward (1892).  Thomas worked as a Boiler Maker, or as someone workimg on heating Boilers, possibly for the City or school system.

Minnie Coleman disappears from Kansas records (death or ?) and Thomas is alone with two son in Topeka in 1895.

Thomas married again, to Bridget Ryder between 1895 and 1898, and has children Leo Joseph (1898-1986), Frank (1903-?), and Mary Elizabeth (1905-1960).  However, Thomas and Bridget separate between 1916 and 1920.

Thomas lives in Boarding houses, and works as a Janitor for City or School district.  By 1930s, Thomas works as a Gardener for Topeka school district.

There was also some trouble between Thomas and his older sons John T and Francis E.  They had little contact.  Thomas's son John T had a son (my father) John T Jr who did interact with Thomas... Thomas Joseph Brennan in the 1930s-1940s was described as very quiet, loving gardening, believing children should be seen not heard, and very sad.  It was believed he mourned his first wife and he had little contact with his children, except for Leo.

Thomas Joseph died at the Mount St Joseph home for the elderly in Kansas City, Kansas, on October 15, 1952.  Leo handled all arrangements.  Thomas is buried in Mt Calvary cemetery in Topeka Kansas.
