Tomás Ó Maidín aka Thomas Madden of Boher was a small tenant farmer on the substantial estate of the St George (Carrick-on-Shannon) family.

Thomas Madden & Brigid Flanagan were baptising children in the RC parish of Croghan from 1820-1839 (8 children). That Catherine Flanagan, was invited to godparent three times, indicates earlier godchildren had not survived (i.e. Mary b.1823 and Honor b.1827 - confirmed by the christening of a second Honor in 1839).

Godparenting invitations also position Thomas Madden & Brigid Flanagan in Boher (close to the Corrigan holdings in Macnadille, where many homes were vacant by 1857). The strong representation of Flanagan in-laws,  indicates Boher was very much Brigid Flanagan's home-ground as well.

In 1835, Thomas Madden appears on Tithe Applotment Records at Boher (aka townlands of Macnadille & Toormore) with a total holding of 6 Irish Acres (approx. 10 acres). By 1857, no Madden is recorded as having land here.

Through IrelandXO we discovered that they migrated to Ontario Canada circa 1840, and onwards to Watertown, Minnesota. Of the chilldren who may have travelled with them, only John, Thomas and a Micheal made it to the USA by 1860's.

In the late 1860's, Thomas Madden Sr. and Bridget Flanagan signed papers for Thomas Madden Jr's marraige to a Mary Noonan (dau. of Patrick Noonan & Quinn).

Thomas Jr. said that his parents were "from Co. Roscommon, near the River Shannon". Boher was well within walking distance of Carrick-on-Shannon.
