Thomas McLaughlin was born in Cloonkeen, Kilkerrin, Galway in December 1840 according to family lore.
Son of William and Mary McLaughlin. (dont know her maiden name).
He immigrated to the US by 1874.
Married Ellen Burke. Lived in New York, California, and died Seattle 1902.
We heard different stories passed down about him, one that he was a gardener but also knew how to make decorative iron gates... Another that his brother John was really into plants and some type of botanist and was in South Africa for a while. (Thomas couldnt read or write so doubt his brother could either, so we're thinking the botanist could be a bit of an embellished story..)
