Back to List

Thomas Murray was baptized in Kilmurry, Cork on August 4th 1819. the son of Jeremiah and Judith (nee Murphy) Murray.

He was married to Jane (aka Mary) Neville, (who was probably the daughter of Edmund Neville and the girl next door on Main Street in Macroom), in Kilmurry Parish Church on February 4th 1845. We think they then left for London's East End where the only child of the marriage was born also called Jane in Stepney in 1847. By this time Thomas is working in the London Docks as a Dock labourer.

His first wife Jane Neville dies in December of 1851, this must had been a crisis situation for Thomas being left with a 4 year old daughter and so far away from home and family support. In to this situation comes a mystery person called Margaret Howard, where a marriage occured we are yet to find, it certainly was not in England and we can only suspect that Thomas went back to Ireland for her or this was a common law relationship.

Margaret gives birth to their only child, a daughter Catherine in Stepney on August 28th 1853 and the family remained in Stepney until Thomas' untimely death caused by typhus feaver, in Stepney on November 14th 1864. Jane goes on to marry but has no children, Catherine has one son in 1877 and through him Thomas now has many succesful great great gandchildren, great great great grandchildren and great great great great grandchildren in Canada, Australia, Jersey, Taiwan and many parts of the UK.
