Migrated to/Born in USA

Hi.

I'm stuck and will be most appreciative of any assistance.

Timothy Bruton, b. 1848, Ireland. RC (No other information)
Emigrates to USA 1860 (No other information)
Marries Elizabeth Kemmy 1876 (No other information)
He worked as a laborer 1877 to 1901.

Living in San Francisco, CA, USA beginning 1877
First child born in San Francisco 1878
I can follow his history each and every year until his death in San Francisco 1901.

7 children, 6 survived to adulthood.

Some hurdles on this end, the 1906 earthquake and fire destroyed most paper in S.F.
The beautiful church they belonged to (St. Brigid's) was sold, the archdiocese declared bankruptcy, not much help there.

One aspect of my family roots that blows my mind is that Timothy, age 10, may have traveled alone to the USA in 1860. 1861 - 1865 we have a substantial Civil War that he would have navigated through. Lets assume he lands on the Eastern seaboard, he needs to get to California. There is nothing to suggest that he had any formal education. Education and opportunity must have been important - his eldest son, my GGGF, became the district attorney in S.F. and ran for Judge in 1931 (he lost).

I find one reference that his wife Elizabeth Kemmy was from County Laois.

Thank you
