Túrchoid Carn aka Carn Tower is believed to have been built circa 1689  (during the Jacobite wars) as a small defence look-out tower.

Beside the tower stands the last fragment of what once was Lynott's Castle aka Carn Castle (the site of the infamous Barretts - Lynott incident as described Ferguson's epic Poem "The Welshmen of Tirawley").
