Leenane is situated at Killary Harbour, in the northern part of Connemara in Co. Galway.

What is interesting about this street of homes and shops is the different building materials. Clearly, the thatch of old is making way for slate roof in some cases. The half-door is in operation in some of these buildings and one figure stands looking out over it (4th from left) into the street where the hens are scattered.

The bridge is clearly visible in this image, and in 2007 flood waters swept it away, effectively cutting the village in two. Incidentally, Leenane, or An Líonán, means "where the tide fills".
