Loftus Hall, Wexford

Loftus Hall is said to be one of the most haunted houses in Ireland. The site of the present day house was in use from 1350 where a castle was originally located. The Loftus family came to take possession of the building after the Cromwellian confiscation.

The story of the haunting comes from the belief that the spirit of a young woman and the devil himself haunt the building. A stranger who arrived on a stormy night agreed to a game of cards. When stooping to pick up a card on the floor, Lady Anne noticed the strangers cloven hoof, screamed and fainted in terror. Afterwards Anne was locked away by her embarrassed family.

Today, the Quigley family own the mansion house.
