Kiltoom (Roscommon)

Share This:

This thatched house near Cregga in Kiltoom was built circa 1860.

In 1858, at the time of Griffith's Valuation, the original homestead on this site [#11a Moyvannan no longer extant] was registered in the name of William Reddy.  The "new" thatch house you see today was at that time attached to the old house (which then probably became an outbuilding).

In 1851, William Reddy godparents for Mark Tracy & Mary Anne Reddy in Ballybay RC parish aka Kiltomb.

At the time of the 1901 Census, all but one house in this townland (the squire's) were thatched.

  • I know this area very well. I have actually sat inside this cottage by the open fire chatting to the then owner May Leonard. I was brought up in the village of Newpark, which is close by for many years. My cousins still live in the village where the cottage is situated!

  • Wow ... what a brilliant connection!

Have you added you own Newpark ancestors to our Ancestors roll-call for Cashel and of course Kiltoom itself?

    Here's how...
