From earliest Christian times . . Roscrea Fair Days. . were an occasion of great rural expectation and excitement . .

Farmers . . from all the neighbouring Parishes . . came to Town . . to . . Buy and Sell . . their livestock. . 

On the Streets of the Town . . were paraded . . Cattle . . Horses . . Pigs . . Poultry . . and sometimes . . Butter . . Eggs . . 

It was a great occasion of " Meet and Greet " . . and the Shops and Pubs of the Town . . did mighty business . . 

There were occasional " Faction Fights " . . but mostly Fair Days were occasions of Fun . . and Street entertainment.

 

After a Fair . . the Streets . . were in need of a very great ' cleanup ' . . which could take up to a week to accomplish . . E.M.H.
