The Mayo Peace Park & Garden of Remembrance was opened on October 7th, 2008 by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, and was the fruition of years of work by a local committee under the chairmanship of Michael Feeney.

Michael was subsequently awarded the MBE due to his services in promoting British-Irish relations by Queen Elizabeth II at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in the Queen's New Year Honours List in 2010.

The Peace Park remembers those that died around the world in conflicts in the name of peace, who were born in Mayo  There are over 1200 names on the World War 1 memorial alone and other memorials include, World War 2, United Nations, An Garda Siochána,  Korean War and Vietnam War to name but a few.
