John Barry and Johanna Furlong baptised daughter Mary in 1848 and son John in 1851 at St. Aiden's church.

They left Ireland and headed to Wolfe Island Canada. The next child was born there in 1854. They had several more children and eventually made their way to Muskegon, MI and then on to Chicago.

I was hoping to find more information about them both and their families.

  • Hi Renee,

The marriage record is on rootsireland but has very little info!:
     Date of Marriage:14-Nov-1847
    Parish / District:Enniscorthy
    County:Co. Wexford
    Husband
    WifeName:JohnBarry
    JoannaFurlong

IF John was also from Enniscorthy (marriages were usually in the bride's parish) this is the only Ennioscorthy baptism:

    Name:John BarryDate of Birth:
    Date of Baptism:28-May-1822Address:
    Parish/District:EnniscorthyGender:MaleCountyCo. Wexford
    Denomination:Roman Catholic
    Father:John BarryMother:Johanna Bryan

Another clue would be the name of John's first son. With the Irish naming pattern the first son was named after the father's father so maybe there was a long line of Johns

Annoyingly I couldn't find a Joanna  baptism in Enniscorthy!

The Tithe Applotments have 7 Furlongs and 2 Barrys in Enniscorthy Wexford 1833 (free at titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/)

The Natnl Library of Ireland has made the R C registers freely available to search at registers.nli.ie/. If you search for Enniscorthy you'll find that the records for Enniscorthy are considerable - more than most and from an early year.
