My great, great, great grandfather Thomas Boyle died in 1867 living on Church Lane next to St. John's Church. His son also named Thomas married a Bridget Mc loughlin the daughter of James from Quay St. Bridget had three sisters Catherine, Rose and Frances.

The family arrived in NYC in 1867. Other family members were James Boyle who married a Harriett Knox and the family moved to England. Michael Boyle who married a Ellen Howe and moved to Brooklyn. A John who I believe married a Mary Currid and stayed in Ireland.

A Philip Boyle who died in 1871 lists a sister Margaret Gallagher wife of a Patrick Gallagher still living in Sligo..This couple had a daughter named Ellen who arrived in NYC in 1882. A William Boyle arrived in NYC in 1865 and married a Mary McKeon.

Finally Catherine Mcloughlin married a William Palmer, they had two children Ellen and Jessie.

Just wondering if this rings a bell with anybody.

Thank You,

Joe Hannon

  • Joe,

Birth of Jessie Mary Palmer on 6th April 1869 in Lower Knox St, Sligo to Wm Palmer & Catherine McLoughlin. Father was a seaman:

The church baptism record on rootsireland gives the date of birth as 23rd March 1869 (baptism 13.4.1869). The church date of birth may be more reliable. Parents were often slow to register a birth. There was a small financial penalty for late registration, so they usually just changed the date of birth to one that would avoid the penalty.
