Hi,

I'm looking for my 3 x gg grandparents who I think came from Donaghmore. Their names are Robert Britton (cotton weaver) and his wife Elizabeth Porter (died before 1830). Their daughter Jane was born circa 1823 in Paisley. He had a son named George in 1813 in Ireland before leaving.

His parents were Robert Britton (wheelwright) & Darcy ? Hill.

I'd like to find out which townland he came from. He left Ireland and settled in Paisley, Renfrewshire where he married his 2nd wife Agnes McMillan in 1830.

They were Presbyterian.

Thanks,

Daryl

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The subscription site Roots Ireland has Donaghmore Presbyterian records starting in 1803 for baptisms and 1820 for marriages. However, I did not locate any Britton records when I searched for that parish. I expanded the search to all of Donegal for Britton baptisms with father Robert and the only record that came up was an 1805 baptism in the Inver Church of Ireland parish. Can't explain why I did not find a record for George.

You may want to add Robert's story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection. https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…

    Have you considered DNA testing?
