Bridget Burke was born in Westport c1812, daughter of George Burke , a farmer. Around 1830 she married Peter Parker and in 1832 eldest daughter Mary Parker was born in or around Westport. My mystery is Peter Parker. Some say that he was born in England c1799. At a time when people were leaving Irealand for England and America I can't find a reason why Peter was in Westport and marrying a local girl several yeras younger than him.I feel that there must be a story but I have no idea how to find it. Bridget and Peter were in England in 1844 possibly to escape the potato famine. can you suggest where I can look to find out about this family please.

Peter Parker may have been military stationed in Westport and or may have come there to work on a farm or in a trade. There are lots of possibilities.

Hi Jane, Thank you so much for passing my query to your volunteer. I am very keen to find out more about this family , as I know nothing about their Irish life before
their immigration to New zealand in the 1840s.
