I'm looking for my Irish ancester who was always referred to as Big Irish "John Brannon" b 1745 Queens (Stradbally?) may have had a sister Rebecca Noland Brannon b 1750 (married James Gano) both immigrated to the US and lived in Berkeley County, West Virginia. John went on to become a well respected citizen in Berkeley County - he married Rebecca Baldwin and they raised 11 children. He may have been the son of Patrick Brannon (1729-1797) and Permelia Noland (1724-1776)

Thank you in advance for any information that might shed some light on my Irish Brannon/Brannen/Brennen ancestor !!!

Warm Regards,

Kathy

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Unfortunately, RC parish records with a few exceptions are not available back to the 1740s. Records for Stradbally start in 1820 and the Nass Kildare records (your attached gravestone transcription shows Nass in Kildare) start in 1813.

You may want to consider DNA testing to see if you have matches which might give you more info on your Brannons.

  • Hello Roger - many thanks for the timely reply. I'm actually looking for my 90 year old mother - she's the vetran geneaolgist for our family and she's been looking for Big Irish John Brannon for years.

She HAS taken an Ancestry DNA test - but - how do we go about sharing that info with your Irish community ? Sorry I'm such a novice at this stuff - just trying to help my mom :-)

  • Kathy:

At present, we do not maintain a central data base with DNA kit numbers. There is a site called Gedmatch www.gedmatch.com  where you or your mother can load her raw Ancestry DNA data and she will get macthes with people who tested with other DNA companies (and also loaded their data to Gedmatch). It expands you matching universe.

  • Thanks for that formation - we will give that a try with gedmatch and see what happens - will let you know if any one in Ireland is a match :-)

    Warm regards,
