My great-grandfather was from there. His name is Michael Patrick Caveney. His father was a blacksmith, also named Michael.
I am in Canada, but would like help finding where they lived. When travel is again possible, I want to return to Ireland to visit their homestead if it can be found. I have a photo of my great-grandfather in front of the ruins of the forge in his home village, but it is in very bad condition.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS There was a forge owned by Brian Delany in the same townland. It would make sense that my great-great grandfather worked for him.

Hi Mairead,
I've just come across your posting and I am familier with this townland as some of my relatives also lived there back in the 1920's onward. You are correct that Brain Delany owned the forge and I had the please of meeting some of his relatives some good few years back in the late 90's - Bernard Delaney and his sister Josey Cullinan (nee Delaney)
I was over there with my family doing research into my own family history and had inherited some photo's that my Uncle,Aunts and Grandmother had taken when they used to visit the area to see my Granfathers family. This was before the war (WW11) and their trips were curtailed at the outbreak of the war such that they never went again.
We tracked down Granlahan, the local village and got directions to Spring Gardens but struggled to find it. We stopped & asked a local lady where its was and by chance she asked her husband to come ourt and would you believe, he was Bernard Delaney. However he had spent most of his working life in Coventry, U.K. which is not too far from where we live in Leicestershire. So, he was not too sure where the old townland was given that much of it was no longer standing. He in turn referred us to his sister who had grown up there and we tracked them down & Josey and her husband Walter, kindly took us to Spring Gardens.
I would dealy love to see your picture and would be only too happy to let you have the ones I have in exchange.

I have sent you the photo of my great-grandfather, by email. I couldn't seem to find how I could attach it here. What I found interesting in the Griffith's information you sent, my father was named Leonard. I had not idea why, but perhaps a name that my grandfather heard spoken by his father...good or bad, who knows?!!

Regarding "Meet and Greet"
I have tried many times to fill out the form regarding my trip to Ireland. When required to put the name of town where I'd like to be met, it doesn't allow Roscommon or Castlerea. I now know the plot in Spring Gardens Townland where my great-grandfather is from. I realize the plots are not longer visible except in the historical maps, but I do have the coordinates. I would very much like to meet with ancestors of the Delany family who lived nearby, as Brian Delany had a forge, my g.g.grandfather was a blacksmith, and the photo of my g.grandfather I posted I believe is in front of the relics of the forge.
Is there a way to contact a volunteer in that area who might take me to Spring Gardens?
