I am researching my Irish roots and am seeking further information regarding my ancestors Charles McCormick and his son Dennis. In the parish records of St Paul's (1805-1836) it shows Charles' ( no.4340) and  Dennis' (no.5197) weddings. Can anyone advise if these numbers are an indication of the chronological order and how can I find the names of the brides?. Various searches on paid sites have not borne fruit. Can I use the numbers to cross check the brides on another site or still on St Pauls?.                                                                                                                                                                                             Bill Smyth

  • I think the entries you have seen are from the marriage index - Microfilm 08828 / 05, the numbers in these indexes generally a sequence number noted in each actual marriage register entry, sometimes the indexes use the page number. In this case marriage register is on Microfilm 08834 / 03. The page which shows the marriage for Charles is 253 in the register -  see towards the top of the right hand page. Charles McCormick to Ann McCoy at St. Paul's RC Dublin City (there's also a Church of Ireland St. Paul's) on the 13th November 1825.

The entry for that Dennis McCormick is on this register page, married Catherine Walsh on the 7th[?] February 1834, so unfortunately a little too soon after the marriage of Charles to be his son.

Edit : I see from a previous post that the parents of your Dennis are Charles/William Charles McCormick and Mary McDonald - do you know what denomination your McCormick family were ?

  • Thank you Shanew147. It seemed a little too good to be true that they were the Charles and Dennis I've been searching for. Dennis married Jane Conley (that is how it is written on his death record in Scotland. The McCormick's always seemed to be RC to me,the Scottish marriages always took place inthe RC church.                                                                                                                             Again thank you for your help.

  • No sign of a baptism for Dennis that I could see in Catholic records, but I did locate a probable sister Mary baptised in Dublin city :

Maria McCormick baptised 9th June 1811 in St. Nicholas RC (Francis Street), Dublin City, parents Gulielmi (William) McCormick and Maria McDonnell.
See this page in the register (right hand page about a third of the the way down)

  • Thank you shanew147. Well done. I will pursue the "Sister" thread and look for more info via St Nicholas Church records. I presume Maria (daughter) would have been married (1830-1840).             Bill Smyth
