Hi all,

Looking for any details regarding Patrick Cosgrave (Cosgrove) and Anne McGolrick who lived in Killanummery, Leitrim.

They had numerous children but the only 3 I know any details for are:

Anne Cosgrave, born in 1833

Catherine Cosgrave (Cosgrove), born around 1834. Arrived in Melbourne, Australia in 1862 with her brother John. Married 5 days later to Richard Williams. Died on 25 Mar 1873 in Melbourne, Australia.

John Cosgrove, born in 1837. Arrived in Melbourne, Australia in 1862 with his sister Catherine. Married 8 years later to Susannah "Susan" Veater (born in England). Died on 6 Dec 1919 in Melbourne, Australia. John and Susan had 3 children born in Melbourne: Susannah (1872-1914), Alfred (1877-1953) and Amanda (1879-1936).

Does anyone have any further information of this Cosgrave family in Killanummery in the 1800s?

Thanks, Greg.

  • In Griffith’s Valuation of Leitrim, 1856, there was one Patrick Cosgrave, living in the townland of Beagh:

Cosgrave Patrick Beagh Killanummery Co. Leitrim

I noticed that a Patrick Cosgrave of Killanmmery parish married Anne Leyden in 1840. They had several children. Perhaps Patrick was widowed and then remarried?

  • Thanks Patricia,

Yes, I've seen the baptism notices.

I've also seen a newspaper notice for John's marriage which says he is the 4th son of the late P. Cosgrove so I know Patrick died prior to 21 June 1870 and John must have had three older brothers but I've never seen any information about them.

Also, the Patrick that married Anne Leyden died in 1895 so therefore a different Patrick.

    Cheers.
