  • Dear IrishGreen3369:

Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.  Do you have any other information about Michael and Mary Curley?  Mary's maiden name?  Their ages, dates of birth and/or death?  If so, would you please add to this thread.

    Kind regards,

    Jane

  • Michael was born in Monahan, as his records state about 1807 or 1808 and cannot find any record of Mary's maiden name.  They both died in South Shields England, Michael in December 1889 and Mary died on  21 Marh 1900.  I did find a marriage for Michael Curley of Glenagalagh for 24 Feb 1829 in the Killalow parish to a Mary Dohony county Clar Ireland.   Their daughter Sarah married a John McQuade in South Shield England and migrted to the Boston MAssachusetts area in 1870.  That is about all I can find....................

  • Hi IrishGreen (Don't have your proper name)

There were a few families of Curley in Co Monaghan in the 19th century. It is close to where the surname possibly originated

Jane asked me to get in touch as I am XO admin for a parish in Co Galway but am also involved in reseraching the Curley surname especially using DNA

What were the names of Michael and Mary's children in age order? Sometimes that may help as they could have adhered to the traditional naming pattern of first born son after paternal father, first born daughter after paternal mother etc

Hello Mr. Martin Curley:  I am Bernadette (Paoletti) Patruno, do not let the name fool you, I am Irish on my maternal side all four grandparents!!  I am also dual-citizenship Irish as my maternal grandfather was born in Bansha, Tipperary.  The only child I know of is Sarah a daughter born in Monahan as records state about 1842.  I have not been able to find any record of her birth.  I do not know of any siblings.  Sarah's married John McQuade in South Shields, England and her  first born son was named James I think after her husband's  father.  Sarah's first born girl was named Mary Ann both of them were born in South Shields England. The family settled in the Massachusetts area where the following children were born, Sarah (my grandmother) 1870, John 1872, Kate and Thomas twins 1876.  I have had several DNA tests done waiting for a 23 and me test on where in Ireland I might be connected.  I will be in Ireland in June for a Hooley in Bantry, Ireland south of Cork. I do not think I can make it up to Monahan.  I would love any information you might have.  Thank you  Bernadette

  • Hi Bernadette

There is a Curley surname DNA group on FB which also has some Monaghan Curleys connections

If you have done Ancestry I suggest that you upload to gedmatch.com That is a free site which has several ways to see matches and may help
