I am searching for Denis Donohue who married Hannah Riordan in Cork Ireland. Their daughter Ellen Donohue was born in 1864. The family lived in Mill St. Cork. Ellen sailed for Australia, arriving in Brisbane in 1888 aged 24. She married George Adam Minz 12 June 1889 in Toowoomba Queensland She died in 1944 in Toowoomba. I would like to know more about the family in Cork, who the parents of Denis and Hannah were.

Ellen was baptised on the 7th October 1863 in Millstreet Catholic Parish, Co. Cork, parents names are given as Dionysis (Dennis) Donoghue and Honora Reordan, the sponsors (godparents) are recorded as Dionysis Riordan and Ellena Donoghue - see the second last entry on this register image (NLI Catholic Registers)
Millstreet is a town in County Cork (Lewis 1837) located about 50km to the North West of Cork City and near the border with County Kerry.
A search of Civil Birth records, which started n 1864, revealed a sister to your Ellen named Mary, she was born on the 18th November 1865 in Millstreet town. Her father Denis is listed as a Carrier, the informant of the birth is the child's father Denis, using his mark.
I also located the marriage for Denis and Honora in Millstreet parish on the 8th January 1863 see the second entry on this register image, this register also includes some very useful clues - the father's name and mother's first name, most Catholic parishes did not include mother's names on marriage records at this time, and many did not include father's names. The groom's residence appears to be Liscahane townland, and his parents Johannis (John) and Ellena, Honora's residence is given as Carrigacooleen townland, and her parents as Josepho (Joseph) and Maria (Mary).
Unfortunately the registers for Millstreet Catholic parish only go back to the 1850s, so likely not possible to follow this family any further back.
