I'm headed to Ireland in a few days (yaaaay!) and looking to visit a few family sites and churches.  One of the families includes:

John Devereux and Mary Burke married on 1 Jun 1840 in Kilcommon RC parish. Residence on record is Hollyford. Witnesses were Michael Burke & Thomas Deveruex.  They had the following children:

1. Mary Deveruex - bapt. 8 Mar 1841 at Anacarty & Donohill RC parish; residence Moheragh; sponsor Mary Burke

2. Hannah Devereux - bapt. 12 Jul 1842 at Anacarty & Donohill RC parish; residence Ballysheeda; sp: Timothy Hogan & Margaret Hickey

3. William Devereux - bapt. 2 Dec 1845 at Anacarty & Donohill RC parish; residence Ballysheeda; sp. Patrick & Margaret Ryan

4. Margaret Devereux - bapt. 25 Aug 1848 at Anacarty & Donohill RC parish; residence Ballysheeda; sp. Michael Ryan & Bridget Dwyer

5. John Devereux - bapt. 7 Jun 1852 at Tipperary RC parish; sponsors Patrick Whelan & Margaret Walsh

I'm pretty sure this must be the same John Devereux on Griffith's Valuation 1850 in Ballysheeda:

The family left for Troy, New York in 1853.

I have two questions:

1) Is it possible to determine exactly which church they would have married at, and which church the children were baptised at?

2) From the Griffith's Valuation info, is it possible to locate the exact spot they were living?  I tried to find the lot number on the map, but didn't have much luck.

Thanks so much for any help!

  • Thank you, Miriam! I didn't know about the "guide to maps." I will check that out!
