  • LittleKris:

What was the religious denomination for Edmond and Elizabeth? I've searched on two subscription sites (Roots Ireland and FindMyPast.ie) and have not located a baptismal record for Edmond Devlin (and Killenaule records go back to 1821) nor did I find a marriage record for the couple.

  • Several of the children of Edmond and Elizabeth were baptised in the Catholic parish of Fethard, which is immediately south of Killinaule RC parish. Elizabeth is noted as 'Bessie' in several of these..and in one case as Biddy, possibly in error.

A search of Fethard Catholic marriages shows a possible match - 31st January 1831 'Edmd Develin' and 'Elizabeth Grey' - see the first entry at the top of the right hand page (NLI RC register images). he witnesses to the marriage appear to be Daniel Gleeson and Judith Mara[?], no residences are noted

  • Hi Shane!

Just curious. Which site did you use? I used FindMyPast and searched in Co. Tipperary for children of Ed Devlin with a mother maiden name Grey plus variants and did not get any records.

FindMyPast for both - in conjunction with the NLI images - not sure what was going on with your search.. only potential issue I can think of might be spelling of surnames - Grey/Gray Devlin/Develin/Devlan etc

For the Children search I selected county Tipperary, no parish or year , surname D*v*l*n* gives just 44 results, for father add e*, sort by year - gives 6 results, one on 1814 for Templemore, discount this as too far away and too early, the rest all Fethard father Ed/Edm/Edward/Edmond, mother for these Bess/Eliza/Bessy and Biddy, a look at these for possible mother's surname shows Grey or Gray (including the one as Biddy).

Similarly for the marriage - surname D*v*l*n* , county Tipperary, no date - gives 13 results, view these and sort by year - none in Killenaule, but one 18421 in Fethard, groom Edmd. Develin bride is transcribed as Elizabeth 'Giery' but if you look at the image it's Grey (groom's surname is actually recorded as Develin)

    I've attached some screenshots...

Depends on the names and how common they are - if the initial search gives too many results to review I add more details such as initials and recheck result count.

p.s.I dont think RootsIreland have Fethard RC - it's not on their sources list, should be under Tipperary South as it's Cashel & Emly, the only alternate name for the parish seems to be 'Fethard & Killusty', which was the location of the two early chapels - RootsIreland sometimes use a chapel location as 'Parish' name, but no sign of Killusty in their source list either

Right Fethard parish is not on Roots Ireland. Thanks for the tips and screenshots.
