My great grandfather Maurice Casey was from Abbeyfeale, as was his wife, Kate Murphy. They immigrated to Cleveland Ohio in the 1870’s, and were married in Cleveland. From what I heard, growing up, from my grandmother, Fr Casey was her cousin! Someday I will make it back to Ireland and see his statue!

  • Yes--that statue still stands in the square in Abbeyfeale in a tribute to the great work he did in terrible times. I think that Fr. William Casey came from Castlequarter, Co. Limerick. His nephew was the Fenian Author John Sarsfield Casey 1846-1896. My Grandmother was Margaret Lewis from Bansha and she was his 1st cousin.
