My brother, sister and I will be traveling to Ireland this spring in search of our Irish roots including the Husseys of Galway. We have done all the research we can here in Canada and now we hope for some new leads in Galway

  • Dear Cindi:

Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.  I have done a very quick look at the Hussey and Keaveney surnames in County Galway during the time that Mary Hussey was born, and it appears that those two surnames were both in several parish in north County Galway (very close to the Roscommon border).  The parishes are Kilkerrin, Templetoher.Kiltullagh (Roscommon) and Dunmore areas.  That might be a good place to start.  We have several very knowledgeable volunteers in those areas who I will contact for you to see what information they may have to offer.

The parish registers are available through Roots Ireland and the National Library of Ireland for some of these parishes, but not all.  If you had further information about Mary Hussey such as siblings, marriage date of her parents, that would be very helpful.

As to the Brodericks that you are looking for, would you email me that information directly at:  jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com and I will try to assist you with that.

    All the best,

    Jane

  • Thanks so much Jane for this very quick and hopeful response. Unfortunately, the only other information that I had on Mary Hussey was that she went to America ( through Boston) with her three sisters. I have searched ship arrivals (to Boston) to no avail. I feel that she sailed from Galway (from her obituary) and was hoping there might be departure lists there ?
