looking  for information on my Great Granfather Patric Cronin Foley. He was in British Army joined September 1881 at the age of 19 putting his birth in 1862. Born Abbeyfeale but I Cannot find any birth record for that time on genealogy.ie using Newcastle as civil registry. His enlistment form has his father as John, Church Street but his mothers name undecipherable. There are Foley's in census 1901 and 1911 from abbeyfeale but so far the birth records I have found for some of these family members have their Father as Timothy Foley not John Foley

After the Army he lived in Portumna Co Galway and married my grandmother Cecelia Gantley and worked as a Taylor.

Any help would be fantastic as I have come to a dead end

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Roots Ireland had a transcription of an 1859 baptismal record in Abbeyfeale. Do you think this record is for your ancestor?

  • Hi Roger,

Thank you for doing the reasearch. The Patrick Foley i am looking for would have been born in 1862 based on his enlistment document whch had him age 19 in 1881 plus the 1911 Census of Portumna also had him born either 1862 or 1863. With that said its possible he was a 2nd Patrick if this one had passed away at an early age

Can you share the link for where you found this record because I suspect he had siblings which i may be listed too.

I located the record on Roots Ireland which is a subscription site so the link won't work unless you want to sign-up for a short-term subscription  www.rootsireland.ie

However, here is the actual record from the parish register  https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634901#page/24/mode/1up
