I’m trying to locate a townland for my Great Great Grandfather Francis(Frank) Keenan. I know he was born in 1836 and was from Longford. I’ve hit a brick wall in my research. I believe he may be from Columbkille, Soran or Corneddan. I plan on visiting the area next year and would like to visit the area. Any help is appreciated! Thanks. -Bill Keenan

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked on the subscription site Roots Ireland and the only Francis Keenan baptismal record in Co. Longford around 1836 was in 1827 in Killoe RC parish. Soran and Corneddan townlands are in Killoe civil parish so possibly the 1827 record is for your Francis Keenan. Are you aware of siblings to Francis?

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly Roger! Frank had a brother James and I believe a sister Ann. Could it be possible that this is Frank’s baptismal record given the difference in years?

  • I've seen 10 year differences in other cases. I did check and the only sibling that came up was a Patrick in 1830. Killoe records start in 1826. So if James and Anne were older than Francis, no record would be available.

    Hi Roger,

is there a local genealogist that you can put me in touch with that lives in the area?  I plan on visiting Longford next year and would like to be able to visit the area where Frank Keenan came from.

    Thank you!
