Hello,

I have been tracking my DNA for serveral years and recently have discover where most of my Irish ancestors are from.

They seem to be from the Dowra and Bawnboy areas of Ireland.  Most of these matches have Dolans and McGoverns in their family trees.

My GG grandmother was born ca1844 in Ireland.  She went by the maiden name of Margaret Farrell but in some documents she was listed as Margaret Dolan.

I have DNA matches with many McGoverns & Dolans including a Michael Dolan 1840 from Dromahair, Anne Dolan 1871 from Moher County Leitrim, Elizbeth Dolan 1852 married to James Patrick McGovern 1834 Cavan County, Alice McGovern 1810 from tullymanoile, Cavan.  There is also a Jack McGovern 1775 from Killinagh, Templeport, Cavan.  I think he might be an ancestor of Senator George McGovern of South Dakota.

Do any of these names make a connection with anyone?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and there were two Margaret Farrell baptismal records in Cavan around 1844 (1840 and 1841). There were also seven Margaret Dolan baptismal records in Cavan from 1839-1849. Without her parents names, we can't confirm any of these records.

I did find the likely civil marriage record for James McGovern and Elizabeth Dolan in 1872. James was shown as Magauran. See second record on the page. Note the names of the fathers of the bride and groom are listed on the record.

Let me know if you have more specifics to search for records.
