My story is a little different than the others on IrelandXO. The gist of this blurb and what follows  is to introduce the research I’m pursuing. It has to do with the men, women and children who were killed in explosions at the du Pont company gunpowder mills in Delaware, U.S.A., during the 19th and early 20th centuries, most of whom were of Irish origin.

From the first production of black powder in the first decade of the 19th century to the last blast of powder a couple of years after the end of World War I, there were close to three hundred explosions, not all of them fatal, and more than two hundred people killed.

I’m conducting research on each of the deceased and need the help of the genealogists, historians and others who access IrelandXO.

To that end, I will be posting a couple of lists to the website, The first will include the names AND the geographical information that I have on some of the men and women. The second posting will be the names for which I do not have county, parish, townland, etc. information. I will post the first list within the next two weeks.

Any assistance any of you who are reading this post can provide will be MOST appreciated.

Thank you.

  • Hi, I am looking at unanswered queries and that is an interesting story, it appear the posting have not generated any response here, however I will post the Cavan ones on a private Cavan Facebook page that I am a member of, however I am not a member of a Tyrone one if you think it worthwhile at this late stage.

    Thanks
