Looking for the townland and any information about these ancestors from Co. Leitrim. I believe they were from the area near Aughavas.

Daughters of Francis Heslin who emigrated to the US (1847-1850) were Margaret (m. John McGovern), Ann (m. Patrick Reilly), Elizabeth (m. Mathew Reilly), and another younger sister whose name I am also seeking.

The townland of Francis Heslin may have been Killyvehy, subtownland of Drumcaskeen.

Other family members were: Patrick and son Mathew Riley/Reilly, James McCabe (m. Anna), who was a half brother of Patrick Riley/Reilly.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and located three baptismal record transcriptions which may be for your ancestors. Gortletteragh parish covered part of Cloone civil parish. Possibly the 1831 Anne died young or the 1837 Anne is a different family since the mother is shown as Mary McGowan not Ellen McGowan. The townland was shown as Caton Esk which possibly is Cattan.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • I'vre not checked the boards in a bit for my surnames of interest, of which Heslin is one.

My late mother-in-law's family, both sides, were from the Aughavas area.  My late mother-in-law's mother was Mary Heslin born in the townland of Cornageeha & eventually came to RI where she married. Her sister Sarah remained in Leitrim & married Patrick McCabe; they settled & had their family in Drumbore.

You've only given some locations over in Ireland for Francis but no info on where in the US he settled,  a wife's name & her vitals that are known or anything on his daughters other than husbands' names so it's a bit difficult to help w/o knowing a few other things to begin to know where to look.

What was the name of Francis wife & what are the vital dates or approximate dates known for her?

Did he marry her in the US or did they arrive as a couple?

Where in the US did Francis settle?

Were Francis' daughters born in Ireland?   Or where they born where he settled in the US?

Do you have any guesses as to their birth years?

    Linda

  • Wondering if anyone might have info on the family of my great grandmother, Catherine Heslin, Baptized 1854,Cloone. She married Hugh Patrick Reilly ( 1845-1879) from Mohill. They are buried in Mohill. She was the daughter of James Heslin and Bridget Nichol. Thank You, Sheila
