Seeking information on the possible illegitimate child of James Crozier and Julia Byrne in 1871. in Latin as Jacobus Crosier and Julia Byrne. Child named Julia Mary Crozier, findings are:

1. Baptism record. 2. No marriage record found for them. 3. Marriage in 1873 batchelor. 4. Letter from him to the child in 1898 she was in england and called herself Margaret Crozier. 6. Marriage certificate to George Witherspoon in 1898 states father as James Crozier Vet Deceased (he died 1914) 5. Irish Times notices from her on his death and anniversaries.  Family story in England is there was irish money that was never claimed.

He married as a batchelor in 1873 to Sarah Louisa Molony. Fathered 7 more children. Lived at 26 Montpelier Hill, was a visiting J.P at Mountjoy prison. No mention of her in will. He regarded as a prominent citizen in Dublin and wealthy landowner. Links to Co.Tyrone? His marriage notice in Belfast Times states "James Crozier Esq. of Co. Tyrone"

  • On the 1901 and 1911 census James gives his place of birth as Scotland/Renfrewshire, occupation Veterinary Surgeon/ Veterinary Surgeon and J.P., his religion as Church of Ireland.

    There's a partial extract for Julia's birth on FamilySearch - see this link, I dont see any sign of a marriage registered for them - maybe they didn't marry, or married somewhere other than Ireland ?

    I'll have a look for the civil registration of her birth and update.... see below

  • Civil birth for Julia Mary Crozier born 2nd April 1871, 4 Portland Row West, Dublin city. Father James Crozier occupation Farrier, mother Julia Byrne.

    Thanks so much for looking. Those records are the same as I found and unless there is a spelliang variation (which I have been through dozens of) it does point to her being illegitimate. He marries Sarah molony as a Batchelor o short of being a bigamist I think he must not have married Julia Byrne. She appears on all English census’ from 1881.
