Hello,

Calling all Coholans!

My g-g-grandparents were Jeremiah Coholan (1803-1869) and Johanna Connors (1808-1887).  Jeremiah was baptized at Cork South, St. Finbarr's on 9 July, 1803. The family lived on Hospital Lane.  Jeremiah and Johanna may have had one daughter in Cork before they emigrated, Honora Coholan (1839-1914).  They emigrated to York county, New Brunswick, Canada in the early 1840's.  Jeremiah and several other Cork and Kerry Irish were thrown out of work in Fredericton due to a depression.  They founded what became known as Teetotal or Cork Settlement, see my website:  http://www.corksettlement.com/ which is dedicated to the original settlers and their descendants.

Jeremiah Coholan and Johanna Connors had several children in New Brunswick including:  Daniel Coholan (1841-1861); Mary Coholan, my great grandmother, (1843-1931); Elizabeth Coholan (1844-?); John Coholan (1845-1925); Patrick Coholan (1847-1909); Michael Coholan (1848-?); and Cathrine Coholan (1851-?).

I know absolutely nothing about Johanna Connor's ancestors.  I'd be pleased to learn more about her and of course, any descendants of Jeremiah Coholan and Johanna Connors.

Jeremiah Coholan's parents were Daniel Coholan and Catherine Walsh.  They were married 31 Oct 1784 in Cork South, St. Finbarr's church.  Addresses I have for them include:  Fuller Lane, Bandon Road, and Hospital Lane.  Daniel Coholan and his wife, Catherine Walsh had several children, including:  Elizabeth Coholan (1790-?); Daniel Coholan (1791-?); Thomas Coholan (1794-?); Ellen Coholan (1796-?); Bridget Coholan (1801-?); Ellen Coholan (1805).  I have no more information on them.

I'm very interested in taking photos of St. Finbarr's South church; Hospital Lane, which I understand is now 98th., Street; Fuller Lane (I can't find that one); and Bandon Road.   Also, I'd like to find the graves for Daniel Coholan and Catherine Walsh.  Does anyone know where the Catholic cemetery of that time would be near St. Finbarr's South church?

Also, I'm very interested in locating any current descendants who may still live in Cork city or other relatives who would like to exchange genealogy information on our joint Coholan ancestors.  We will be in Cork city May 3, 2019 but just for the day.  I'll monitor this Facebook page just in case anyone recognizes family names here or could give me anymore information.

Thanks!

Colleen Kennedy
