Hello again!!

I was interested if you could find any information on my 3rd Great Grandfather, and Grandmother The information I have ( if it is the correct info) is he was born  1804 Ballysaggart, Lismore, Co Waterford, Ireland. He was married to Mary Magrath born 1806  Ballysaggart, Co Waterford, Ireland. .

They had from what I could find 2 children, my 2nd great grandfather John, (1836) and a daughter Joanna.(1826).

I know John Walsh was a pretty common name back then in that area so trying to locate the right ancestor is a puzzle piece, especially when searching different sites.

You all have been helpful and have steered me in the right direction on a few occations so keeping my fingers crossed here.

Thanks

Jenny

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out!

From the records I can see on the subscription site Roots Ireland, there were two John Walsh/Mary McGrath couples in Co. Waterford in the 1820s-1840s. Some records are in Kill parish and others in Lismore parish. The two parishes are a good distance apart so I'm focusing on the Lismore records since the 1826 Johanna was in that parish. There was also an Honor record in 1824, Catherine 1835 and Laurence 1838 but no John. The online parish register shows a gap between 1831 and 1840 for baptismal records for Lismore parish but Roots Ireland appears to have some of the records in the gap period since Catherine and Laurence were in that gap period  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0112  I did not find a marriage record before 1824 for a John Walsh Mary Magrath. Where did you find the 1836 John record?

Let me know what questions you have.

  • Hello  Roger,

I found Information on my 2nd Great Grandfather John Walsh, (Mar 1836), and his wife Catherine Healy (1839)

On the children's birth records the parents names are John Walshe and Catherine Hely on the first child but John Walsh and Catherine Healy on the others.

So I don't know if that's the way the Parents names were recorded. The oldest child birthplace was Dromore, Aglish Parish, also Tinniscart, Dungarvan, Co.Waterford

    Marriage record--Aglish Parish
Walshe John    wife: Hely Catherine  4 Mar 1862
Witnesses : Keane Maurice    Cotter Johanna
        Marriage register M/1837-1876  P.176
        Husband's parents:
        Wife's parents:

        Parish: Aglish     Priest: O'Meara John
                Dromore

So with no parents listed on the marriage certificate i'm assuming the John Walsh I thought was his father wasn't. Grrrrrrrrr

I see that a witness was Johanna Cotter and what I learned from a 3rd cousin 1x removed who had  a couple reach out to her

that actually went to the family home back in Ireland in 2007 they had met a couple that had filled them in and apparently

the Walsh's Hally's, Cotter's and Fenton's all lived in area/farm.  His wife's  Great Grandfather was Patrick Walsh,

who is my Great Grandmother's sibling. Their tree on Ancestry is private so I may try and reach out to them

If you could find any other information it would be kindly appreciated.

    Jenny.
