Hello,

I'm trying to find the final resting places of John Keefe and his son Timothy of Longstone. John died in 1890 and Timothy in 1887. I'm also looking for the final resting place of Laurence Kearney. Laurence died in 1909. I'm thinking that they are buried in the Old Lattin Cemetery. Laurence was married in the Church in Lattin. I don't have a clue as to where Longstone residents were typically buried within this time frame. Timothy's wife and children all emigrated to the US prior to 1894.

  • I see a Mount Bruis Cemetery in Lattin.  That graveyard has a small number of memorials photographed and recorded on the FindAGrave website.  https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery-browse/Ireland/County-Tipperary/Lattin?id=city_228868

Historic Graves has a graveyard recorded in Emly with a number of Lattin references on the headstones.  The link is here:  https://historicgraves.com/graveyard/emly/ts-emog

I will also forward this query to several Tipperary volunteers who may have further information.

    All the best,

    Hi Jane,

Thank you for responding. Mount Bruis and the Emly cemeteries did not provide me with the names of the Ancestors I am seeking. I was reading in one of the message board posts that the gravestones of Lattin were recorded in 2013, but I don't know where this information can be found. Also, thank you for forwarding my query to the Tipperary volunteers you are in contact with.

  • Hi Steve:

I don't see where Lattin Graveyard transcriptions were ever fully recorded.  I do note that there is nothing published, but I will make enquiries with someone that I know in County offices there.  I will reply to you via this thread with the answer.

    All the best,

  • A number of Longstone families were buried in Cullen, but there is no gravestone there to the Keefes. Three families lived close to one another in small houses on the side of the road in Longstone; Keefe, Bercury and Lillis. The first two emigrated to the US, while Lillis received a cottage in Ballinulty and descendents of the family continued to live there until about twenty-five years ago.

The Kearney house still stands in Longstone.

  • Hi Ger:

Thanks very much for that information for TippAnc18thC!  If you have a map reference, would you share it here with him so that he might be able to see the house?  You can use the OSI or Google Maps.

Many thanks for sharing that very helpful local information.

    Hi Ger,

Thank you for your knowledge of the Longstone families. The Keefe's that emigrated to the US noted their connection to Cullen Parish in their deaths. The spatial layout of their homes is new knowledge for me. I would like a photographic image of the Kearney house, regardless of it state of preservation. It's the last physical trace of my Ancestors presence in Ireland. I would like an image before it disappears forever.

  • The house has been renovated in recent years and is now occupied. Its co-ordinates in Google Maps are 52.498320, -8.296584.
