  • Hi Catherine,

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

My name is Anne Marie and I am the parish liaison with Ireland Reaching Out for Mallow and area.

Do you have any dates for Julia or her husband? Take note that we can not  help if these people could still be alive due to privacy rules

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Catherine,

Thanks for that, I have checked the records from the subscription site www.rootsireland.ie and found the birth registration of Timothy Finnegan, born 18 July 1800 in Glantane, father Jeremiah Finnegan mother Ellen Murphy from the address Newberry (Now part of Mallow)

www.irishgenealogy.ie has the free civil record for their marriage from the 28th November 1936   https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…

They married in St Peters church Kilshannig Mallow, both groom and brides address is Dromahane at the time of this marriage, Timothy was a widower when he married Julia Sexton, Julia's father was William Sexton farmer from Dromahane

Have a look at the civil birth, marriage and death records on www.irishgenealogy.ie both Timothy and Julia were born when civil registration was in place so you might be able to find a lot of information on this site.

Unfortunately I could not locate a baptism or birth record for Julia it is difficult to find this when we do not have an estimated year of birth

    Kind regards,

    Anne Marie

  • Hello Catherine

just adding a few bits to Anne Marie findings on your request.I do some family research for Glantane  P P and saw your request.Drommahane  and Newberry are in Glantane catholic parish and Kilshannig Protestant parish which cover the same area which means searching these parish names for information in these areas..The church in Drommahane is the main catholic Church for the parish and a Fr.Buckley is the parish priest who keeps all the parish records back to about 1828.he lives in Drommahane.

Glantane cemetery opened in 1936 which means burials before that date took place elsewhere in a number of cemeteries in surrounding areas.

There are Finnegans still living near Drommahane who i can contact if you wish.

i ckecked Glantane cemetery inscriptions and saw a headstone with a Jeremiah Finnegan who died in 1946 and his wife Ellen who died in1955 .the grave also contains a Timothy Finnegan ,their son ,who died in1966. This would appear to match your ancestors. You can view that information in the website historicgraves.com for glantane cemetery on headstone no.188. I was involved in the digitising of the records for GlantaneCemetery. By holding the cursor over the inscription it is magnified and easily read.We had planned to put the full inscriptions on the website but got lazy and concentrated on getting other cemeteries photographed and recorded.

I hope this bit of info added to anne Marie's research will be of benefit

    regards

  • hello Catherine

Donie back Again ,you should check the 1901 and 1911 irish census records where your ancestors are listed.1901.as ireland was under british rule at these times the official administration parishes were the protestant ones so for 1901 search Finegan in Kilshanning DED and for 1911 search Kilshannig DED.note the different spelling. You will see the family moved from Newberry  to Smithfield and some finegans still live there .,spelled Finnegan now, Newberry is near Drommahane village while Smithfield is near Glantane village. Some Smithfield Finnegans are buried in Glantane also.

    Regards

you should search irishgenealogy.ie and the civil records there where you may get further information. This site is free to search and contains births, marriages and deaths back to 1864 when compulsory keeping of records began. It is not a complete list but worthwhile.I should be able to check the parish records with the permission of Fr.Buckley when you need further information.I know some of the younger Finnegans and can ask them if interested in contacting you.
