Kathleen Christine Kelly is my Paternal Grandmother.  She was born in Ireland (Dublin, I think) Dec 17, 1895.

Parents were George Alexander Vandelor Kelly and Roseanna Whiliams or Williams

Kathleen married my grandfather Alexander (Axel) Aulin on December 21, 1918 in St. Joseph's Church, Dublin.

Kathleen lived on Eccles Street at the time they met and were married and then emmigrated to British Columbia, Canada.

Any information or records would be greatfuly appreciated

  • I located the birth and baptism records for Kathleen/Catherine and a brother George in Dublin North city - details as follows (links are to the free IrishGenealogy website) :

Baptism of Catherine Christina Kelly 18th December 1895 at the Catholic St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral (Marlborough St. Dublin City), born 17th family residence 22 Sumr. Hill (Summerhill), parents George Kelly and Rosanna Williams. Sponsors (godparents) Catherine Rylands, priest Danl. (Daniel) Dowling. Her birth was registered on the 2nd January the following year - same address, father's occupation artist, and the record includes a middle name of Vandelor
    for him

George Noel Kelly baptised 21st December 1894, also at the Pro-Cathedral, born the previous day, family residence 43 Hardwicke Street, sponsors William Powell & Anne Gerrard. George's birth was registered on the 22nd January the following year, the informant is a Catherine Rylands of 7 Buckingham St who was present at the birth, possibly a midwife, she also seems to have been the godparent to Catherine/Kathleen.

Catherine's father is not named on her marriage, but shown as deceased - have not found a death for him, or a promising marriage match for George and Rosanna in the early 1890s or 1880s. The only potential match in civil marriage records for the names George & Rosanna's shows up is in Dublin Registry Office - although well after the births of the children in 1911 on the 16th May ? Names match ok but no obvious link to their address or George's occupation..

Groom George Kelly widower, occupation warehouseman, residence 34 Upr. Rutland St., father William occupation 'gentleman' deceased. Bride Rosanna Williams spinster, same residence as the groom, father's name John occupation builder. The witnesses are Thomas Boyne & Susan Cuthebert.

Based on this there's this possible matching household on the 1911 census taken a few months before the marriage - same address as that given on the marriage, a George and Rose Kelly along with a Catherine age 15 (c1896). George's occupation is paper packer religion Church of Ireland age 70 (c1841) born 'City of Dublin', Rosanna reported age 40 (c1871) Catholic born city of Dublin, and Catherine also born city of Dublin. They have recorded that they had three children but just one still living, and married 19 years - so c1892... seems like a very good match to that marriage and therefore your Kelly/Williams family.

Following on from the details given on that 1911 census I located this Kelly / Williams household on Clarence St. in 1901.  Head of household John Williams age 70 Catholic born City Dublin occupation bricklayer, son in law George Kelly age 60 Church of Ireland born Co. Kildare occupation Farmer, Rose Kelly age 30 and daughter Catherine age 5.  Other than the inconsistencies with George's occupation and place of of birth a good match.. particularly due to John's surname

EDITED : found a likely match for the death of George (snr.), in November 1917, age is a little out compared to the census returns, but place of death is the same as Catherine's residence at the time of her marriage - 73 Eccles Street, the informant is a Kate Kelly, probably his daughter. I also located a probable baptism and birth for Rosanna - baptised as Rosa in St. Agatha's RC on the 31st August 1870, father Joannes (John) Williams, mother May Anne Quinn. The family lived at 14 Summerhill Lower. Rosanna was born on the 21st August 1870 at a lying in hospital on Britain Street and registered without a first name, her father's occupation is recorded as a mason.
