My great grandmother Brigid Keogh was born in  1856 at possibly Ballinasloe. Verbal history (because she was unable to write) says that she lived around Ballinasloe and Loughrea. Her marriage was passed on in a handwritten note as follows.

A Copy of A Handwritten Marriage Certificate is as follows:
Certificate of Marriage.
County Galway.Diocese of Clonfert.Parish of Killincoll. MARTIN LEO m BRIGID KEOGH 5th May 1869.Witnesses Wm. Bernard Teresa Burke
Signed:John P Callanan.Parish Priest.
Celebrant not recorded but "Father William Melvin" pencilled in.
Given at Killinoll - 3 November 1919.

As Killincoll is in this general area it seems that the marriage took place at Kilconnell despite the different spelling as in the handwritten record. Is there a Catholic Church at Kilconnell? Is the name Keogh known in this area?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Adrian Leo

  • Hi Adrian,

You can view information regarding the distribution of the surname in the 19th century here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm?fuseaction=Go.&UserID=

The site also allows you to 'Browse' available records for different areas.

Some information regarding the RC church in Kilconnell is available on the Kilconnell parish page of this website.

You might try posting as much information as you can regarding the individuals you are researching on each of the relevant parish pages. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to assist you.

    regards,
